About Homeopathy

Overview

Homeopathy is an unconventional and complementary medical science based on the principle of ‘like cures like’; developed by German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. According to this principle, a substance that generates symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in an unhealthy person as well. Based on this idea is the science of Homeopathy that has gained worldwide popularity due to its safe and mild ways of treatment. People around the world are increasingly turning towards homeopathy due to its zero side-effects and easy-to-use medicines.

History

Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician with an MD in medicine, was disappointed with the kind of treatment provided in the conventional method of medicine and hence dreamed of providing treatment in a safe, gentle, and effective way. In the endeavors that followed he identified the principle – like cures like and started studying the effect of different substances on humans to develop the science of alternative medicine called – Homeopathy.

Popularity

Homeopathy is considered to be the second largest system of medicine in the world. European countries like France, Germany and England have a number of practicing homeopaths making them the largest homeopathy contributors. Introduced to India in the early 19th century, homeopathy is the preferred method of medical treatment for millions.

Scope

People have gained immense faith in homeopathy because it is widely known to be the best treatment method for various kinds of chronic and severe ailments. The scope of homeopathy is far and wide like other conventional medicine systems covering a wide range of allergic, gastric, skin, respiratory, sexual health, and child health ailments. Homeopathy can be effectively used as a supportive treatment method in treating severe health ailments along with conventional treatment methods.

Principles

Homeopathy is based on a few key principles that play a vital role in the treatment of patients.

  • Like cures like:

According to this, a substance or material that can cause a symptom in a healthy person can be used to cure the symptoms in an unhealthy person.

  • Law of minimum dose:

A minimum dose of the substance has to be administered to ensure safe and zero-side-effects treatment.

  • Law of simplex:

Only one medicine has to be given to a patient at any given time considering all the symptoms and treating the person as a whole.

  • Drug proving:

Only those medicines are prescribed that prove their power on healthy human beings of different ages, sex, and constitution through the systematic drug proving investigation.

  • Drug-dynamisation:

Medicines are procured and prepared following the theory of drug dynamisation through which medicines are made free of toxic and crude substances that are harmful to the human body.

Homeopathy and Allopathy

Homeopathy can be safely used as a supportive and complementary treatment method along with other conventional medicine methods like Allopathy, as it does not interfere with them. Patients taking allopathic medicines for any ailment like blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, etc. can continue those medicines even while taking homeopathy medicines.
